Airports
There are many planes taking off and landing at the airport as usual. In Japan, there are major international airports such as Narita International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Central Japan International Airport. These airports serve as gateways to foreign countries.

Airports play an important role for air travel.
During take-offs and landings, when driving down the runways and taxiways, an airplane must follow the orders of air traffic controllers. With radar and their own eyes air traffic controllers watch what is happening in the airport and the skies above, while giving detailed directions. In the runways there are aviation lights to guide pilots for take-offs and landings. Signals are sent to the airplanes to let them know their flight path for safety at night or on cloudy days.
Chemical fire trucks and rescue vehicles can be called out in the event of an accident.

Carry-on baggage inspection
Before you get on the airplane you have to have your carry-on baggage inspected. You cannot carry sharp objects like knives and scissors on board the airplane. These kinds of things are to be handed to an attendant and can be got back when arriving at a destination airport.
